Using Brechts techniques:
Exercise:
- A naturalistic scene:
Person 1: Loves person 2
Person 2: Doesn't like person 1
Person 3: Wants to kill both person 1 and 2
My group decided to perform a love triangle scene where all gets revealed in the end where 'person 3' has a hatred for both characters. During the performance it was clear to see that 'person 1' loved 'person 2' however 'person 2' didn't show a mutual interest.
Adapting naturalistic scenes:
Exercise:
- Do the same scene with narration on every movement we made
The use of narration during our scene added a comedic value to the performance. Each minute detail of people walking, having a shower, opening a door etc was explained to the audience. This had the affect of making the audience feel stupid and gave the impression that everything was laid out for them.
Other techniques and their affects:
- Narration (Adds comedy and creates the V affect)
- Thinking out loud (Becomes emotive and gritty whilst shocking the audience)
- Montage (Showing the progression through time allowing the audience to face opinions on this)
- Gestus (Over the top emotion making minute details have extreme clarity)
- Slap and tickle (Deeper moments are shocking, using comedy to make things a lighter topic and the V affect)
- Song (Becomes relative and intrigues the audience with comedic moments and clarity of intentions)
- Placards (Revealing to the audience)
