Rehearsal process

The rehearsal process of this show is tricky as there are many elements that create the atmosphere of the show. This included energy of individual characters, devised scenes, advertisement scenes, props and costume. All of which require focus and commitment to incorporate it effectively within the piece.

For me, i found that creating a strong character for each piece im in enables me to develop the audiences understanding of the play. Large characters allow an audience interpretation into the themes of the play. Before creating a bold character i believe it was difficult to convey the themes of austerity, cuts, the media and representations. Small characters within the play allow the audience to understand the detail and reality of the themes we have chosen to convey politically and also humorously. Characters include: Camera men, models, presenters, assistants, parents, children, teachers and many more. Each  character is a microcosm of the people  we have in our society today.

Our representation of the wrongs in society effectively teaches the audience on how to be more politically aware. I feel that our play so far is lacking statistics and hard evidence of what we are trying to convey. However the strong use of slap and tickle provides the audience with a clear understanding on how the media present the public (a heart hitting fact is that our audience is one of those people as they are immediately labelled a pleb or a boss and receive prizes based on the monopoly game and their status by class).

During rehearsals many people forget the queues which makes our performance lack fluidity and pace. Sustaining an energy throughout keeps up the pace and prevents the audience from lacking awareness. I believe awareness is key as the audience must understand what we are trying to show them in terms of political issues.

Hopefully once the dress rehearsal happens the cast are aware of their positioning in accordance to the audience, energy, gestures and the overall routine of the piece. Once all of the above have come together we will be able to have a fluidity and pace with bursts of political themes being adressed to the audience. Furthermore line learning for some of the cast is key as it allows the play to progress visually and vocally. Also during the dress rehearsal im hoping the sound effects will be put in place go create atmospherics.

Overall i believe the play itself is in a good place and the contribution myself and others have made allows the play to be at the good point it is at. The above points i have made are what will allow the play to reach its potential.
